STUIDIO EXPECTATIONS
GENERAL STUDIO POLICY
Everyone is expected to arrive on time for class. Demonstrations
and presentations begin promptly. Clean up will begin approximately
5-10 minutes before the end of class, depending on medium used.
The studio is used by many students daily. It is your responsibility
return all materials and supplies to their assigned places at
the end of class. A shelf is provided for every two students
to store artwork. Studio maintenance is crucial for the studio
to run smoothly. Therefore, all students are expected to help
each other.
Everyone must respect others' work: Do not touch artwork that
belongs to another student.
Leaving art studio is allowed with permission- leaving without
permission will be a cut.
No food or drinks on work tables.
Students clean up their work area and wash brushes/ clean tools
before the end of each class period.
All materials/ tools leaving studio need to be checked out with
instructor in the “sign out book.”
Always leave the studio clean and in order for the next class:
Just imagine YOU are the drawing student who puts an assignment
down on the drawing table covered with pastel dust or oil paint.
An assignment which has taken many weeks to complete could be
ruined irreparably in exactly
ONE second because of SOMEONE ELSE’S carelessness!
MATERIALS
Please bring a pencil and sketchbook to class daily. In addition
to the sketchbook as an ongoing outside assignment, students
may use the sketchbook to take notes and sketch ideas for assignments
in class. All other materials will be provided unless otherwise
announced.
HOMEWORK
A sketchbook (purchased outside of class) is required as a continuous
outside assignment. If the student enters ideas and sketches
at regular intervals, the sketchbook will become a great source
of ideas.
Assignments will be given.
Sketchbooks will be checked at progress reports, midterm and
end of semester. Random checks as well.
ALL WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL! Drawing from CD covers, cartoons,
other artist's work , etc….. is NOT allowed. If a student
is studying a master’s work (with my approval), the name
of the artist and the title of the artwork copied must appear
in the lower left hand corner of the student’s work. Students
must sign all of their work in the lower right hand corner with
name, period, and date.
CRITIQUES
Critiques are conducted as assignments are completed. These
critiques are usually held on a Friday.
Class critiques cannot be made up. A written critique will
be assigned to any student who is absent on critique day.
MAKE-UP WORK
A student who has been absent or dismissed is expected to make up all work.
In order to receive academic work for make-up a student must submit an excused
absence slip.
The student should make arrangements with the teacher for making up assignments
on the day they return to school. This should be done before or after class.
Students are expected to complete such work in a reasonable period of time,
generally five school days.
For every three lates or one absence (excused or unexcused), you must make
up one studio (45 minutes). Each three lates or absences not made up will result
in one point off your grade for that marking period. (Refer to the Bobcat for
further information.)
ABSENCES The attendance cap for this .5 credit course is 8 absences
Attendance is mandatory. When absent, you are required to make
up missed work. If you are absent on a day a project is due,
it is your responsibility to have the project handed in on
time. Class begins at the bell. You are expected to quickly
get your project and materials and begin working. If we are
at the beginning of a unit, then you should sit quietly and
work in your sketchbook. For every three lates or one absence
(excused or unexcused), you must make up one studio (45 minutes).
Each three lates or absences not made up will result in one
point off your grade for that marking period.
Because this is a studio course, the majority of the artwork
is done in class. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that
you attend class regularly in order to keep up with the assignments,
demonstrations and presentations. Oral class critiques cannot
be made up. A written critique will be assigned to any student
who is absent on critique day.
(Refer to the Bobcat for further information.)
TARDIES
Tardy students will be admitted to class. If an excused pass
cannot be presented, the tardy will be counted as unexcused
and the student will receive a grade of zero for any assignment
or assessment missed. Excessive tardiness will be referred
to Building Administration for further action. For every three
lates (excused or unexcused), you must make up one studio (45
minutes).
(Refer to the Bobcat for further information.)
