Connecticut Area Math League (CAML)

The Math Team is open to any student who is intrigued by math. Members compete
in the Capitol Area Mathematics League against 22 other schools. Individual
students who score well may advance to northeast regional and national competition.

Drama Club

Students interested in acting, set design, technical support and general stage work are encouraged to join. Two major productions are staged each year. Student directed one-act plays are usually offered each spring. All Drama Club members must maintain at least a C average. A member whose average is not at least a C will be permitted to participate on a probationary status for one marking period. In order for the student to become eligible again, the student must have attained an average of C or better by the end of the probation period. Tutoring will be made available if a student or his family makes a request for such help.
FIRST Robotics Team

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

Gay-Straight Alliance
Advisor: Maura Begley
Meetings open to all students. Provides a forum for improving communication betwen gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgendered students, their stright allies, and the rest of the school community. Meets approximately every other week, after school from 2:15 -3:15 in room 201. Regular meeting dates will be posted outside rm. 201. There is no sign up for this group - all are invited.
History Club

This group is open to any student who is interested in or fascinated by how people react to problems and situations over time. Members participate in board games, simulations, discussions, movie analysis and reenactment of historical events.
Human Relations Commitee

The HRC celebrates people's diversity in our local and global communities. Students will create, plan and conduct three to four projects designed to bring our differences to light so people may come to know and understand each other better. The HRC seeks to foster great places to learn and live. Come volunteer for commitee work or just to check The HRC out. Meets Wednesdays after school as needed in 147.
Interact Club

This group is a vibrant service learning club helping people and their natural environments in our local, national, and world community. From Habitat for Humanity projects to senior citizen outreach projects, this dynamic club offers opportunities for every member to be an important part of making our world a happier place to be.
Japanese Culture Club
Advisor: Emily Clifford
The Japanese Culture Club is a group that holds discussions on Japanese culture,
has anime screenings, plays Japanese games, and makes manga recommendations
for the Media Center. The group meets every Tuesday after school
in the Library Media Center classroom. Members who are interested may
sign up to participate in the cultural arts fair in the Spring. Club President
is Heather N. and advisor is Mr. Hoffman.
Jets

Jets is the Junior Engineering Technology Society. Members participate in a daylong test/competition at the University of New Haven in March. Up to eight members per team will work together on problems, which may include physics, chemistry, biology, engineering design, and mathematical topics. Meeting times are announced.

Literary Magazine Club (Mind's Eye)
Advisor: Nancy Greco
This organization solicits creative writing from students for publication in a student designed magazine, Mind's Eye. Works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and other creative pieces are included in this spring publication. Magazines may be purchased for a nominal fee. See your English teacher if you are interested. Mind’s Eye’s mission is to gather exceptional, electric, eclectic examples of student writing and art (from all levels) to showcase in our magazine and share with the community at large. We will value all forms of creative expression because understand that each student has his or her own,unique way of perceiving the world. It is our goal to help these inspired and inspiring students communicate their vision to others. We also intend to foster enthusiasm for the literary and visual arts among our peers.
Mock Trial Team

Meets Mondays after school or evenings (depending on group's desire)
This organization competes against other schools on a state level. Students assume roles such as lawyers and witnesses in court room competition as they seek to employ proper techniques of court room procedure to outwit and outscore an opposing school. This team is formed from students of all grades. Students with an interest in a career in law or public speaking are encouraged to join.

This Model United Nations is an organization in which each member works within a delegation to represent a member of the United Nations. The team attends annual conferences at The University of Hartford and Harvard University.

The school newspaper The South Winds is produced periodically through the efforts of students in the journalism class. Students interested in participating should investigate the inclusion of this course into their schedules. The South Winds also welcomes submissions from the school community at large.

Students are presented with opportunities to go skiing, horseback riding, white-water rafting, canoeing, paintball, and other outdoor activities. Whale watching expeditions have been conducted the past few years. The group is always looking for new activities for students.

Student Council News
This is the student government organization. Representatives meet regularly to discuss student concerns, plan programs, and serve the students of the school. This organization is open to anyone who wishes to join. A few of the events planned for this year are: a food drive, holiday party, flower sale, computer match, and the Snowball. Meeting times are announced.

YES CLUB (Young Educators Society)

The Young Educators Society, also known as the YES Club, is a group for students who are interested in education or any profession along the lines of teaching. Students are given the opportunity to discuss about, prepare for and experience the field of education. There will be opportunities to shadow in South Windsor High School and Wapping Elementary School. There are also plans to have guest speakers, and adopting a classroom. All those who are considering going into education are encouraged to join!
